Default GW2 article and oppinion

Please see:

See me

To begin with I would like to be excited about the idea that Guildwars is coming out with another game,
to end with I would like to be confused. Instead of releasing a new campaign or new “Expansion” Arena net has decided to release a new Guild wars called Guild wars 2.

I would also like to state that before you go on some major bashing trip saying “that’s not right” or “your RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing stupid” or some other stupid idiotic thing…..read this…:

ITS AN OPPINION BASED ON WHAT I AM READING/ HAVE READ, NOT CARVED IN STONE, WE ALL HAVE OUR OWN OPPINIONS ON THE SUBJECT AT HAND, I AM JUST VOICING MINE

So you think you know all there is to know?
Wrong.

With the release of Guildwars 2 there will be some epic changes, it will go from the game we love and play to having a few of these features:

Quote:
The new game will have a much higher level cap - and the team is actually playing around with the idea of having no cap at all.
All fine and dandy but the game will go from the idea of skill to the idea of WOW. (World of war craft). I am not comparing the two but I am comparing the idea of both, there different in the ways of one is hours played to gain glory and respect. The term newb and bashing of lower level characters is more “populated there” where in guild wars its not about level, its about skill, a level one character could go in and slaughter a level 20 beast (exaggerating for effect here) or help a level 20 character defeat a hard boss, while in other MMO’s its about level, the higher the stronger, the more money the better.

Quote:
One of the major new additions to Guild Wars 2 is persistent world areas. The original game was entirely instanced which, according to the ArenaNet team, did wonders for their ability to tell a story (there's a major event in the middle of the original game that completely alters the world forever). "What you lose in an entirely instanced game is a lot of social opportunities," Mike O'Brian said. "There's a lot to be said for running into the same people over and over again. If you run with a pick-up group and you never meet them again, it can make a completely instanced game a very lonely experience." While Guild Wars 2 will contain a lot of instanced mission content, it will also sport a lot of shared landscape and will also be divided up into different servers filled with smaller groups of people in the manner of traditional MMOs.

Strain is quick to emphasize that that doesn't mean that players will be ghettoized into their own unique shards. "We're doing this to create more of a neighborhood feeling," Strain said. "But we also want people to be able to switch worlds easily and also interact with players from other worlds." In order to do this, the team is introducing a big addition to the game's lauded PvP systems called "World PvP."
If there stating that there will be some places out side of town where other people can go to (again, WOW, Runescape) then forget it, the old guild wars was better, no spawn camping, to waiting in long lines for quests…(and so on)If there idea of a better game is some instanced areas, much like how Wow or other Role playing games has made places like dungeons instanced, then the game will become like every other Role playing game.

I am starting to see how they cant or are having a hard time keeping up to certain RPG’s out there (if you get my drift….*cough* WoW *cough*) although I could be reading into it all wrong.
Quote:
That, of course opens up the question of what happens to the first Guild Wars when the new game launches. "Nothing," Strain said. "If people want to continue playing Guild Wars 1 they can. We're going to continue to support it and there's no 'cut-off' date when we're going to shut off the lights. In the end, though, we expect everyone will migrate to the new game." And the business model? "The same," Strain said. "No monthly fee and we'll be bringing out new content for purchase on a regular basis." He wouldn't elaborate further on exactly how that worked save to say that it probably wouldn't be the same 'Campaign' system they used for the original game.

"ArenaNet is the Guild Wars company," Strain concluded. "We've got about 100 people here focused on nothing but what's best for Guild Wars. The new campaigns were great, but in the end, that wasn't what our players wanted. They wanted a deeper experience that we just weren't going to be able to provide for them in the original. Thus Guild Wars 2." And what about the future?

"Well, we're not saying anything, but assuming everything goes well, there's no reason for the franchise to end with Guild Wars 2." Strain said.
If and when they do state that “eventually all players will be on guild wars” the old world will become dead, and vacant…..NOT the new guild wars according to wiki will have a much more “powerful” effect visually, thus requiring more powerful computers, people like me may be stuck with the original guild wars as we either reach or just push beyond the door to minimum requirements.
So in the end, the guild wars we know and love is having a “face lift” so to speak.
only time will tell what will truly become of her child (the original guild wars)….

-Higher level cap: We still have no idea how this will play out. It could very well be having levels be a requirement for many areas, or it could work out like Oblivion or Mass Effect: areas/monsters are scaled according to player level.

-Persistant Areas: Note, *some* areas will be persistant. These areas could just be little hubs with merchants and stuff, or an area where a dragon could spawn, or something/anything. To avoid "spawn camping", they could have all quests and the like take you to an instance area of the outpost, much like a lot of GW:EN's quests. Again, we don't know.

I could sum up my whole post just by saying this: Time will tell. Given how ANet's developed their original Guild Wars - and more importantly, now that they know what to expect from the playerbase - I'm having very high hopes.

I love how people are like *cough* WoW *cough*. Since when was WoW the first MMO to have persistant worlds? Since when was WoW the first MMO to have a high level capacity?

That being said, so far i've taken the unlimited cap as nothing more than "my exp says I would be level 200" but your attributes wouldn't increase the entire way to level 200. People have always asked for a title showing exp. I looked at this as a different version of the title. Anet won't make a game that your character will always be able to be stronger. There will be a cap in terms of attributes. Proof? No proof. The game mechanics simply wouldn't work otherwise though.

As for the persistant world..idk..just have to see how that turns out. It could be great or terrible, depending on where they take it. If it gets too crowded it probably won't be any fun. It'll be interesting to see how they deal with, but its way too early to say "omg that stupid. it'll be just like WoW"

Edit: Also you make it seem like no one knew about this. Hasn't this information been out for ATLEAST 6 months?

wow is the biggest Role playing game to date Gw falls just under that.
and D&d and FF11 are just under those.

I would also like to state out that even though Between the lines i state that it would be like wow i am not entirely stating that, there will be concepts that will remind people of wow and other popular RP's on line

that wasn't my point though. People complain because it's unoriginal and already done by WoW even though WoW wasn't the first ones to come up with it anyway.

How else do you explain the decision by a developer to just abandon a successful MMO?

So we really need another thread with GW2 will be a WoW-ripoff?

I thank you for the link to the interview, although not much news could be learned, but please stop the WoW nonsense.

Yes. Too much speculation, not enough information.

I almost posted a thread about that very same article, but chose not to. One of my favorite quotes from it that I enjoy spreading around everywhere, and would be considered my signature if I did have one:

Quote:
After two years of working and supporting the product, we're all very educated about Guild Wars and we have a pretty good idea of what the ultimate Guild Wars experience should be.

This thread is racist against Y's. Do we really need words like "tipical" and "sindicate?" I for one will not stand for this brash, yet clever, offense against Aryna Nyet. Clearly the world has gone mad.

Edit: And shirtless Sawyer...

Your meds. Take them.

First, unless there's been a coup at ArenaNet, I figure this statement still stands:

I just shake my head when I hear this, because the team that is best poised to deliver a successful game that is an evolution of WoW is... well, the WoW team. They've got their thing, and they're good at it. Let's all carve out our own thing, and be the best at it.
Second, Guild Wars isn't and never has been struggling to compete. It's a very successful game, not an RPG clone.

Third, the game is coming out in 2009. Guild Wars 1 came out in 2005. Of course the graphics are going to be improved, of course it will be more demanding on computers. However, they've said in the past that they make games that run on a variety of computers, just like everyone else in the MMO industry that does well. I'm sorry that your 10 year-old computer can't run new games, but there's a point where it's ok to upgrade.

Some of your post seems a litle confused, perhaps you were missing some 2's or clarifying (1)'s, but I'd like to reinforce that GW2 is a completely separate game, it is not going to "overwrite" GW(1), nothing wil change about GW(1) in terms of it's engine or it's graphics.

The original GW will still be there after GW2 is released, if people keep playing, as you yourself, OP, say you likely intend to, the game will still be there to play.
